This October, WFCU Credit Union will host the first ever WFCU Credit Union Trick or Trot!

The WFCU Credit Union Trick or Trot is a Halloween themed 5K Run, 5K Walk and Kids Dash.  This community event offers a one-of-a-kind experience to Windsor-Essex families, you won’t want to miss!

General Race Information

Q: When and where will the WFCU Credit Union Trick or Trot take place?
The race will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the WFCU Centre (8787 McHugh St., Windsor, ON).

Q: Do I have to wear a costume to participate?
No.  Costumes are not a required to participate in any of the race events, though they are encouraged.

Q: Are there age restrictions?
There are no age restrictions for those participating in either of the 5K events. Children participating in the Kids Dash event must be between the ages of 2 – 10 to participate.

Q: Is the race walker friendly? Do I register as a walker or runner if I plan to do a split walk/run during the event?
Yes. We encourage all walkers to join the fun.

Please register as a runner if you plan to do a split walk/run during the event. 

All participants that register as walkers MUST NOT run at any time during the 5K route.  You will be disqualified if you run at any point.


Registration


Q: How do I register for this event?
Registration and payment for the event will be done online only. To register please click here.  All participants must be pre-registered. There will be no registration the day of the event.

Q: Will registration be limited?
Yes. For the safety of all participants the races will be restricted to the following number of participants:

  • 5K Run – 550 participants
  • 5K Walk – 150 participants
  • Kids Dash – 100 participants

Q: Can I register on race day?
No. There will be no registration available the day of the event.

Q: What is the cost of registration?
The registration cost for the 5K Run and 5K Walk is $45. The cost of registration for the Kids Dash is $20. This includes all service fees.  There will be NO REFUNDS.

Q: What do I get for my entry fee?
All participants in the 5K Run, 5K Walk & Kids Dash events will receive a souvenir race t-shirt and access to the post-race snack.  All participants who complete the 5K Run, 5K Walk & Kids Dash will also receive a medal.

Race Kits

Q: Where do I pick up my race kit?
Race kits will be available for pick up on Friday, October 25th from 4pm – 6:00pm at WFCU Credit Union Corporate Office, located at 3000 Marentette Ave., Windsor, ON.

Race kits must be picked up prior to event day.  There will be no race kit pick up the day of the event.

Q: Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?
Yes. If you are having someone else pick up your packet, please make sure they have a copy of your registration confirmation and please email [email protected] to provide race organizers with the name of the individual that will be picking up your race kit.

If we are not given notification that someone other than yourself will be picking up your race kit, your race kit will not be released to them.

Q: What is included in my race kit?
All participants in the 5K events will receive a souvenir race t-shirt, bib, chip timer and other swag. Participants in the Kids Dash will receive a souvenir race t-shirt, bib and other swag.

Q: Can I pick up by race kits on race day?
There will be no race kits available for pick up the day of the event.

Q: Where do I park?
Parking is available at the WFCU Centre (8787 McHugh St., Windsor, ON).  Please look for Trick or Trot parking signage when you arrive on Saturday, October 26th, 2019.

Q: What if it is raining on the day of the race?
The race will take place rain or shine.

Q: How will the race be timed?
This is a chipped time event. A chip timer will be attached to the back of all 5K participant’s bibs.

On the Course

Q: Are strollers allowed on the course?
Yes.  Strollers are allowed on the race course. If you choose to run with a stroller you must line up at the back of the race shoot.

It is your responsibility to make sure your stroller does not impede other runners. You must take extra precaution for your safety, your child’s safety and the safety of the runners around you.

We reserve the right to pull any person from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.  

Q: Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc.) allowed during the race?
Yes, headphones are allowed. However, we do recommend that participants use extreme caution when using headphones during the race events for the safety of all participating.

Q: Will there be water stations?
Yes, there will be water stations at the start/finish line area, as well as the 2.5K marker.

Q: Will there be a medical aid station?
Yes, the medical aid station will be located at the start/finish line area. Marshals on the race course will also have two-way radios for contact with public safety officials.

Q: Will there be bathrooms/portable toilets available on the course?
Indoor restrooms are available at the start/finish line in the WFCU Centre.


Awards

Q: Who receives medals?
Participants in the 5K Run, 5K Walk and Kids Dash events will receive finishers medals.

Q: When and where will the awards and prizes be given out?
Awards for the top male and female in each 5K event will be presented on the main stage at the start/finish line at the following times:

  • 5K Run: 11:00 a.m.
  • 5K Walk: 11:30 a.m.

Q: What are the categories for awards and prizing?
There will be four (4) race awards given out for the following:

  • Top Female Runner
  • Top Male Runner
  • Top Female Walker
  • Top Male Walker

Please note: awards will not be split by age categories.  There will only be one overall male and female winner per 5K race.


Costume Contest

Q: Who is eligible to participate in the costume contest?
All registered participants in either the 5K Walk or 5K Run events, who wear a costume during their race, are eligible to participate in the costume contest.  Completing the race without your costume will result in a disqualification from the costume contest.

Children participating in the Kids Dash are encouraged to wear their costumes, though their will be no costume contest for children.  All children will receive a WFCU Credit Union Halloween treat bag.

Please note: if you are participating in costume, please make sure your race bib is visible.

Q: What are the costume contest categories?

  • Individual Costume – costumes of only one person
  • Partner Costume – costumes with two people
  • Group Costume – 3 or more people forming a group theme

The top winner in each category will receive a prize!

Q: How will the costume contest be judged?
Judges will be looking for originality, authenticity, overall theme and craftsmanship!

If you are interested in participating, you will need to register at the Costume Contest table by 9:00 a.m.

Those entering in the pairs or group divisions must come to the judging table as a group to be eligible to enter the contest.  

Q: When will costume contest judging and awarding take place?
Costume contest judging will take place at 9:15 a.m. on the Main Stage at the start/finish line.

Awards for each category will be handed out following the races at 11:45 a.m. on the Main Stage.  Costume contest winners must be present at the awards ceremony to receive their prize.
